PLQ Mentor Information

This page provides information regarding the training and support available for those new to mentoring PLQ participants, and also a summary of what has changed for 2021-22.

Optional online training session – 22/09/21 @ 4:15pm

This 90 minute session will provide an introduction to basic coaching and mentoring techniques and concepts.

Whilst this session has been designed with the ISQAM & PLQ programmes in mind, it will not include a briefing or explanation of either programme as that is available from the following online video:

PLQ briefing video for mentors

This 6 minute video is intended for new mentors who are unfamiliar with PLQ. It explains the programme and how it works, although please note that it describes the “traditional” model with 2 face-to-face training days, whereas some clusters now run partially online:

What’s changed for 2021-22?

The following information is intended for mentors who are already familiar with the PLQ programme, but are interested in the particular changes introduced for 2021-22:

The most significant change this year is probably the introduction of “blended” cluster models alongside the traditional cluster model of 2 face-to-face training days. Online sessions have worked well in the current Level 1 Blended Pilot, and we hope that this mixed approach will be helpful to schools and also mitigate some of the risks currently inherent in putting too many eggs back in the “face-to-face” basket too soon. Linked to this is the new pricing differential between “blended” and “traditional” clusters, and for the first time a link between participant fees and association membership. Please see the PLQ briefing document for more information.

Apart from a few minor wording and formatting changes, the only significant change to content this year is at Level 2, where we are re-introducing the “legal” module which had originally featured at Level 1. This change was originally staggered to avoid participants undertaking the same module theme at both levels in subsequent years, and now with the additional delay caused by not running Level 2 in 2020-21, there should be very few participants who experience any repetition. That being said, please do get in contact if you are mentoring any participants who completed the legal module as part of Level 1 several years ago, as we may be able to offer an alternative.
