Members and colleagues in HMC schools may already have seen the DfE circular about revised Safer Recruitment Training; we would now like to take this opportunity to let you know more about the new Safer Recruitment Consortium referred to on the DfE Safer Recruitment site.
In November 2013, a number of interested parties met with representatives of the DfE to discuss future plans for safer recruitment training. From these meetings, a consortium was created between four organisations:
- Lucy Faithfull Foundation
- NASS (National Association of Independent and Non-Maintained Special Schools)
- CAPE (Child Protection in Education)
Since then, the consortium has worked together to review and update the content of what was previously NCSL and then CWDC material, to incorporate the messages of Keeping children safe in education 2014 and reflect the most recent changes to legislation in relation to DBS checks and so on. They have also developed new training standards and a trainer code of conduct to inform quality assurance processes.
Further details can be found on the Safer Recruitment Consortium website at www.saferrecruitmentconsortium.org.
